Shelf is an innovative new mobile app transforming the beauty industry. Focused on digitalizing the social experience of cosmetics, Shelf is pioneering a new way for women
around the globe to connect with the world of nail polish, elevating the conversation on healthy products and allowing users to seamlessly share their experiences.
Until now, the millions of women around the
world who regularly paint their nails or visit the salon were relegated to platforms like Pinterest or Instagram to share their experiences and see what other users were wearing. Cosmetics have always been a very social experience, but there has never been a digital platform tailored to the unique experience that comes with the beauty world.

FIRST WITH THE WORLD OF NAILS
Now, with a few simple taps, users can
organize, share, and experience nail polish on an app made for them and their love of nail polish. They can see what their friends are wearing, what celebrities are into this season and how healthy their favorite brands’ products are. Setting the precedent, Shelf incorporates the five main nail polish brands’ collections and allows users to seamlessly catalog their colors for their own use or to share with their network. Shelf truly is elevating the experience and we were privileged to be the ones to design
and develop the app itself.
The Shelf team hired Vibrancy to conceptualize, design and develop the app from scratch,
granting us a blank canvas to bring about their
vision. We worked with the team for months,
choosing between color palettes, design aesthetics, and feature sets to create the design framework for their MVP (minimal viable product). When a startup approaches us to create the first version
of their app, we always recommend creating an
MVP that incorporates their core feature set
and allows for them to determine the
appropriate direction for the app.
Once we had the design blueprint ready, we launched into development, carefully coding the social network from the ground up. The Shelf team worked with us every step of
the way, maintaining a wonderful level of communication as we embarked on the journey of creating this amazing app.

Shelf, coding it from scratch with Apple’s new
Swift 2.0 language and tailoring it for
Apple’s most recent iOS9 release.
The core feature set of Shelf allows its users to connect with each other, and with the world of nail polish, in completely new ways. The Shelf team has a grand long term vision for the app, but for the MVP we focused
on concretizing the main activities
of the platform.
With the tap of a button, users are able to document their nail color and create the UGC (user-generated-content) that makes the app so powerful.
